Are you a movie fanatic? A Game of Thrones die-hard fan? Perhaps you’ve recognized parts of Icelandic landscapes in Hollywood productions and want to see them for yourself, but are not entirely sure how to go about it once here? Look no further, this 10-day guided tour is just for you!
In 10 days, you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with Iceland’s finest natural backdrops whilst visiting key filming locations around the island. This trip will take you across the rugged lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula and parade the most majestic waterfalls of the North in front of your very own eyes. The South Coast awaits with infinite black beaches and enthralling pit stops; the DC-3 Plane wreck being a top favorite.
We’ll take you far and wide across the country’s Eastfjords and west coastline, stopping at legendary film locations and the set of blockbuster movies such as Star Wars, Interstellar, and even James Bond 007 – just to name a few. Of course, no trip will ever be complete without taking a short hike to Iceland’s hottest new local hotspot: The active volcanic eruption of Fagradalsfjall.
As this is a fully guided tour, we take care of everything when it comes to planning and organizational matters. Our experienced guides know the island inside out and will be more than happy to assist in any way they can. This tour is ideal for the young, adventure-driven traveler who enjoys mingling with fellow-minded explorers (and being an unashamed movie and TV fan doesn’t hurt either!). The only thing you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the journey.

Driving Distance: Approx. 50 km
Optional Activities: Sky Lagoon, Whale Watching, Puffin Watching, FlyOver Iceland
The first day of this trip is centered around your arrival at Keflavík International Airport. There’ll be a bus shuttle waiting for you outside the airport regardless of when you land, so don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
Depending on your arrival time and mood, you can stop at the Blue Lagoon on your way to town for some relaxing downtime in milky blue geothermal waters. You can also choose to be dropped off directly downtown and explore the city, do some shopping, or perhaps join a guided city tour. In the evening, there will be a casual get-together with the rest of your group.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Þingvellir National Park
Friðheimar Tomato Farm
Geysir & Strokkur
Gullfoss Waterfall
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
The second day of your trip takes you across the Golden Circle. We first stop at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of great political and geographical importance. This is where Alþingi, Iceland’s first democratic parliament, was founded in 930. It is also one of the very few places in the world where you can see the Mid-Atlantic ridge above ground. A key element worth mentioning is that scenes from HBO’s “Game of Thrones” were also filmed in Þingvellir.
Optional: We then make our way to Friðheimar tomato farm for lunch, where we try some of their renowned homemade tomato soup and freshly baked bread. If you’re feeling frisky, you might even opt for a Bloody Mary too!
After lunch, we take you to the geothermal area Haukadalur, home to Geysir and its more famous brother Strokkur. Here, you’ll get a chance to witness boiling water being dramatically ejected from the deep beneath the ground to heights of 40 meters and above every 5-10 minutes.
Shortly after, we head to Gullfoss, a spectacular two-tiered waterfall nestled in the heart of the Hvítá river canyon. You’ll then head towards your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the evening with your newly found friends, share stories from the day and crack open a beer or two.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss Waterfalls
Shuttle Transfer to the DC-3 Plane Wreck
Dyrhólaey Rock Arch
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
Today, you’ll slowly but surely make your way towards the country’s southern coastline, an explorer’s gold mine when it comes to the vast diversity of sightseeing and activity opportunities. You'll head towards two of Iceland’s most popular waterfalls – Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, both of which have featured frequently in movies such as “Thor: The Dark World”, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” as well as popular shows such as “Game of Thrones” “Vikings” and more recently “Star Trek: Discovery”.
We take a shuttle that whisks us directly to the crash site of the DC-3 Plane Wreck, passing by dramatic black beach landscapes, just before continuing our journey towards Sólheimajökull glacier. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not strap on those crampons and upgrade to set off on a guided glacier walk instead? An ATV Tour to the plane wreck is another exciting upgrade option.
We will stop at a couple more interesting film locations before fully unwinding at a cozy handpicked hotel nearby.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Hjörleifshöfði Cliff
Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
Diamond Beach
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
Day 4 takes you to Hjörleifshöfði, a 220-meter-high rock with a cave that Star Wars fans may recognize from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. Ironically enough, this is also referred to as the “Yoda Cave” due to the opening’s resemblance to our favorite little, green Jedi. Nearby is Mýrdalssandur – a scenic outwash plain in between two rivers. You might recognize this area as the planet Lah’mu, the home of Jyn Erso, in the opening scenes of “Rogue One”.
You then continue your journey towards Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, but not before stopping at the otherworldly Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. Here, you’re more than welcome to roam around and explore the fairytale-like scenery. You then continue east and finally arrive at the breathtaking Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, slowly unraveling in front of your eyes. Its undeniable beauty has made this location a bit of a hotspot, in movies such as “Batman Begins”, “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and two James Bond movies, “Die Another Day” and “A View to a Kill”.
You will take a boat tour to see the glacier from up close, or simply enjoy it from the shoreline. A few minutes’ walk from the glacier lagoon take you to the Diamond Beach – a stretch of black sanded coastline from where you can admire stranded pieces of ice that drifted off from the lagoon. We’ll then head towards our accommodation and take it easy for the remainder of the evening.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Stokksnes Viking Village
Vestrahorn Mountain
Eastfjords with Picturesque Stops Like Djúpivogur & Fáskrúðsfjörður
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
Can you believe it is day 5 already! We’ll slowly head towards the charming area of Stokksnes peninsula, where dramatic peaks intertwine with desolate black shorelines, creating a truly ghostly yet breathtaking setting. The Viking Village, which is effortlessly nestled at the foot of Vestrahorn, one of Iceland’s most photographed mountains, is a must-visit when you’re in the area. The village is actually an abandoned film set from a movie that was never made.
After spending some quality time enjoying the mystic ambiance, you’ll be whisked away and brought to the picturesque little fishing town of Djúpivogur, where you will be free to roam and explore the area. Your day ends in the village of Egilsstaðir, where you will have a chance to relax and spend the night in a hotel nearby.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Seyðisfjörður Village
Námaskarð Geothermal Area
Lake Mývatn
Grjótagjá Cave
Mývatn Nature Baths
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
Perhaps you remember the scene from “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” where Walter gets on a longboard and skates for, well what seems like, an eternity. If you do, you’ll be thrilled to learn that Seyðisfjörður, the location in which this scene takes place, is next in line on your itinerary.
After soaking in the charm of this calm yet colorful town, you continue your journey towards the northern territories of the island and lake Mývatn, Iceland’s 4th largest lake featured in “The Fate of the Furious”. This area offers endless sights and smells to those who visit, with sulfuric mud pots expulsing distinct scents that will be remembered far beyond the end of your Icelandic adventure.
Take a sneak peek into Grjótagjá cave - a “Games of Thrones” hotspot for the infamous love scene between Jon Snow and the wildling Ygritte. You can opt. end your evening fully immersed in the warm and calming waters of Mývatn Nature Baths.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Dettifoss Waterfall
Húsavík Village
Goðafoss Waterfall
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities: Whale Watching, GeoSea Baths
Ready to get back to civilization? This morning you’ll start your route towards Akureyri – Iceland’s gateway of the North, filled with attractive wine and dine options, young vibrant nightlife, and exciting little local gems literally at your fingertips. On your way there, you’ll pass by Goðafoss waterfall and Dettifoss waterfall, whose waters grace Prometheus’s opening scene on the big screen.
A little drive further up the road takes you to Húsavík, Iceland’s whale watching capital, where you can opt to join a boat tour and see these magnificent water creatures from up close. Húsavík has been enjoying the limelight recently, as it was heavily featured in the Netflix movie “Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga” and the home of our Icelandic singing heroes. The Song “Húsavik: My Hometown” may have narrowly missed the Oscar win, but if you keep your ears open, you may hear “Jaja Ding Dong” playing somewhere. We also recommend taking a dip in the stunning infinity pool at GeoSea.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Hvítserkur Troll Cliff
Grábrok Crater
Glanni Waterfall
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
On this day we will take you on a journey through the North West, which is less touristic but has some spectacular sights to offer! You will visit the troll-shaped rock Hvítserkur, which lies in front of the peninsula of Vatnsnes. Here, you can take beautiful photos of the Atlantic Ocean sending waves around this mythic formation.
Heading further into the area of Borgarfjörður, you will get a chance to walk on the edges of the volcanic crater of Grábrok. In the vicinity lies the beautiful waterfall Glanni, which is said to be the home of elves. You will then head to Borgarnes where you can slowly unwind and call it a day.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Stykkishólmur Village
Kirkjufell Mountain
Lóndrangar Sea Stacks
Djúpalónssandur Black Beach
Gatklettur Rock Arch
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
Today, you’ll dive deep into the wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Often labeled ‘Iceland in Miniature’, this western coastline region gives you a taste of the country’s finest natural wonders, set just a stone's throw away from each other. Go back in time and explore the quiet fisherman’s town of Stykkishólmur, overlooking Breiðafjörður bay in the distance. Marvel at the dramatic seascapes and rugged cliff sceneries!
You’ll also get a chance to stop at Kirkjufell – one of Iceland’s most photographed mountains. This already famous mountain has become even more well-known thanks to it featuring as “The Arrowhead Mountain” in Game of Thrones season 6 and 7, in the epic battle between the Wildlings and the White Walkers.
You will end the journey in Reykjavík.
Double/Twin room with private bathroom, breakfast included.
Capital Reykjavík
Blue Lagoon
Driving Distance: Approx.
Optional Activities:
Today, unfortunately, we have to say goodbye, but hopefully not for long! Depending on your plans and departure time, you can choose to take it easy and walk around Reykjavík's city center, do some last-minute shopping or perhaps relax at a local café.
Enjoy the world-famous Blue Lagoon (if not the day 1) before making your way to the airport?
