The Golden Circle: Iceland’s most popular day tour features three unique and very special places. After breakfast at the hotel, you will head out to the first location, and one of Iceland’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the national park of Þingvellir. This is the best site to see the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the separation points between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. After your visit to the park, you will then opt. stop for a fresh and delicious local lunch and a special geothermal greenhouse - Fridheimar Tomato Farm.

Then it is time to visit Geysir, the world-famous, and iconic site where you will find the most active geyser in Europe – Strokkur. Erupting every 5-8 minutes or so, you are guaranteed to witness the sights (and smells) of one of the most popular attractions in Iceland. Finally, it is just a short journey to the next location, Gullfoss. This powerful waterfall is one of the most famous, if not THE most famous, waterfall in Iceland. When you witness it for yourself, it isn’t difficult to see why.

Your accommodation will be a country hotel, where you can relax and enjoy your beautiful surroundings.

seljalandsfoss waterfall view from behind

Today, you will head further south, along another of Iceland’s most popular routes. The South Coast of Iceland is home to some incredible locations, such as the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. You can venture behind Seljalandsfoss, into the cave for another perspective of this incredible waterfall. Skógafoss is a stunning and powerful waterfall that has been featured a number of times in movies and TV shows, as have many places in Iceland.

2010 saw the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, one of Iceland’s most famous volcanoes (and it’s most unpronounceable!) and you can see the volcano in the distance if the weather is clear. Also here is the glacier of Sólheimajökull. The volcanic beaches of the South will amaze you on this day, especially the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach.

Today, you will journey on to one of the most spectacular locations in Iceland – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Icebergs break away from Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe, and slowly make their way out to the open ocean. Gazing at these giant, ice structures lazily float out to sea is quite a sight, and you can often spot the occasional lazy seal, basking in the sun atop the icebergs. Jökulsarlón is also part of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland’s second UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Close to here, You will take a boat tour to see the glacier from up close, or simply enjoy it from the shoreline. The ocean currents break down large icebergs, and the smaller pieces are scattered across the black sand beach, and they glitter in the sun like diamonds. This is why they have named this location Diamond Beach.

Then, it will be time to head back to Reykjavík, where you will have a little time in the evening once again.
