The first is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Þingvellir, a place of particular significance, as it is the site of the oldest living parliament in the world, as well as being very beautiful. This visit will be followed by a fresh and tasty tomato soup lunch in a local greenhouse.

Your next stop is the world-famous site of Geysir. This iconic location is where you will find Strokkur, the most active geyser in Europe. Erupting every 5-8 minutes or so, it fills the air with a pungent aroma of sulfur. From here, it is a mere 20 minutes or so to the next stop: the beautiful waterfall of Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Water rushes and cascades over two platforms and down into the canyon below, which is especially pretty in the wintertime!

In the distance, you will be able to see the glacier of Sólheimajökull and the volcano of Eyjafjallajökull, which famously erupted in 2010, stopping air traffic around the world. The black sand beach of Reynisfjara is a very special place, as the Atlantic Ocean smashes the coastline. Then, it will be time to return to Reykjavík, where you are free to explore in the evening.

Many of the sagas are set in this region, and it is the resting place of Snorri Sturluson, one of Iceland’s most famed writers. Reykholt is where you will find out more about him and learn a little more about this region. Not exactly short on natural beauty either, you will visit the waterfalls of Hraunfossar (Lava Falls) and Barnafoss (Children Falls).

Then, it is time to head back to the city. You can use the time to have a final meal in one of Reykjavík's many restaurants, visit a bar or two and take in the winter atmosphere.
