Accommodation: Reykjavík (e.g. Skuggi Hotel)
Optional Activities: Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, FlyOver Iceland, Northern Lights Tour
Upon touching down in Iceland, you will be met by your guide. From the airport, it is only a short journey to reach your city hotel.
After an easy check-in, the group will rejoin for a 2-hour walking tour of Reykjavík. Then you can simply use the rest of the day to do your own exploring, with plenty to do in Reykjavík, you won’t be bored. You can even take a Northern Lights tour in the evening if the weather is right!
Accommodation: Golden Circle (e.g. Fosshotel Hekla)
Optional Activities: Laugarvatn Fontana
After breakfast, it is time to head straight for the Icelandic countryside. Iceland is magical, all year round. However, during the winter months, it can be particularly special. Today, you will visit the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most popular day tour, to three of its most popular locations. You will start by visiting Þingvellir, one of Iceland’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This place has a special significance, as you will learn. After your visit, a warming and tasty local lunch will be provided in a local greenhouse.
Next, it is time to warm things up even further! Geysir, is the hottest spot on the Golden Circle. Strokkur, the most active geyser in Europe, erupts every 5-8 minutes on average, shooting boiling, sulfur-rich water high into the air. It is quite a sight to behold, and quite a smell!
Finally, you will visit Gullfoss. Arguably the most famous waterfall in Iceland, and certainly one of its most powerful. In the winter, it is partially frozen, and the ice walls add that winter magic.
Your accommodation will be in a warm and cozy country hotel. Here you can relax with your group and in the evening you might even get to see those magical Northern Lights. In the countryside, sometimes all you need to do is to stand outside and gaze up into the skies. The hotel also offers a Northern Lights wake-up call, should they make an appearance whilst you are asleep. Best wake-up call ever!
Accommodation: Reykjavík (e.g. Skuggi Hotel)
Optional Activities: Glacier Hiking
Today’s journey will take you south, along the coast, and the second most popular route in Iceland. Here you will find two very special waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss, where you can venture into the cave behind the waterfall, and perhaps the more recognizable Skógafoss, which has been featured in many movies and TV shows. Both waterfalls are especially pretty in the winter months, as they can often be partially frozen.
To the left, in the distance, you will see the famous volcano of Eyjafjallajökull that disrupted global air traffic when it erupted in 2010, as well as the glacier of Sólheimajökull. To the right, you will see the famous black sand beaches of the South Coast. Stretching for miles, these volcanic sands are an iconic part of Iceland’s landscape, especially when you get to your final destination, the beach of Reynisfjara.
Finally, it is time to head back to the city of Reykjavík for one last chance to enjoy the special winter vibe in the city and grab a nice hot chocolate.
Optional Activities: Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, FlyOver Iceland
Today, you will be heading back to the airport for your flight home. However, if you have the time before your flight, you might even be able to do some last exploring or buy those last-minute souvenirs.
If you have time, you can also pay a visit to the world-famous Blue Lagoon, as it is so close to the airport. Whatever you do, we have no doubt you will be heading home with a head full of magical winter memories and be looking forward to your return trip to see more of what Iceland has to offer, whatever the season!
