Accommodation: Reykjavík (e.g. Skuggi Hotel)
Optional Activities: Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, Whale Watching, Puffin Watching, FlyOver Iceland
Once you safely touchdown on the tarmac at Keflavík International Airport, you will likely already have seen the lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula. Iceland is one of the most geologically fascinating countries on earth. You will receive a warm welcome from your expert guide, who will be waiting for you in Arrivals.
From here, you will board the bus, and it is a short 40-minute journey through those lava fields to get to your downtown Reykjavík hotel. You will then gather again and take a fun and easy 2-hour walking tour of the city, before being left to your own devices to explore. Reykjavík is full of things to do, from museums, amazing restaurants, and trendy bars to local landmarks that are iconic of this lively little town.
Accommodation: Golden Circle (e.g. Fosshotel Hekla)
Optional Activities: Laugarvatn Fontana
After breakfast at the hotel, it is time for your first adventure to the most popular day tour in Iceland, none other than the Golden Circle. The Golden Circle comprises three specific locations, all unique, but also iconic landmarks. The first is one of Iceland’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, Pingvellir National Park. You will learn all about the special significance of this area, and then you will sit down to a fresh, local lunch in a special, geothermal greenhouse.
From one geothermal location to another, next is the world-famous site of Geysir. This natural wonder shoots boiling, sulfur-rich water high into the air, usually every 5-8 minutes or so. Your last stop today is the majestic waterfall of Gullfoss. A protected nature area, much beloved, you will see why this is arguably the most famous waterfall in the country.
Your hotel for the evening will be in the Icelandic countryside, where you can relax and simply enjoy your rural, summer surroundings.
Accommodation: Vatnajökull (e.g. Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon)
Optional Activities: Glacier Hiking
Day 3 will take you along Iceland's southern coast, and its two waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Both waterfalls are very famous and iconic, having been featured in multiple movies and TV shows. Seljalandsfoss has a cave behind it, and we recommend taking the opportunity to venture into it. Skógafoss is a dramatic and powerful cascade, and a protected monument of Iceland because of the birds that nest here. The South Coast is also where you can catch a glimpse of a very famous volcano: Eyjafjallajökull halted air traffic around the world, and the South Coast is where you can see it. Also, close by, you will be able to see the glacier of Sólheimajökull.
The South is also home to volcanic, black beaches that stretch for miles and miles. Created by the gradual erosion of lava by the currents of the Atlantic Ocean, these unique beaches are another iconic location, and no more so than at Reynisfjara, with tall, hexagonal, basalt columns and the sea stacks that adorn this unique and impressive spot.
Your accommodation will be another country hotel, where it will be time to chill out and decompress from another day’s adventure.
Accommodation: Vík (e.g. Hotel Katla)
Optional Activities: Jökulsárlón Boat Tour
Today, you will continue your journey along the coastline towards Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland’s second UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home of Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. This is where you will find the glacier lagoon of Jökulsárlón, where large icebergs break from the glacier and slowly make their way across the lagoon and out to sea. It is incredible to sit and watch the icebergs make this journey, whilst occasionally spotting the seals who enjoy visiting this area to bask in the summer sun.
Close to Jökulsárlón, there is a beach like no other. As the icebergs reach the open ocean, the currents break them down even further, and they eventually lie scattered across the black sand, sparkling in the sun like diamonds. It is little wonder why they call this area Diamond Beach! You will then head back to your hotel.
Accommodation: Reykjavík (e.g. Skuggi Hotel)
Optional Activities: Glacier Hiking
Today, you will head back to the city of Reykjavík, where you will have another chance to explore the city. On the way back along the South Coast, you will stop at places that might have been left out on day 3, and can also choose to go glacier hiking today.
In the capital you can visit the museums, book yourself a table in a nice restaurant, grab a seat by the window of the cool bars in town and watch the life outside – you will always find something to do.
Optional Activities: Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, Whale Watching, Puffin Watching, FlyOver Iceland
Time to head home, but not before taking a last coffee, one last stroll, a few final snaps. The world-famous Blue Lagoon is very close to the airport, so you can even use your last day for a visit before you head home. Whatever you end up doing, you will have had the time of your life and no doubt dreaming about coming back!
