Today, your adventure begins. You will first head towards the national park of Þingvellir, one of two UNESCO World Heritage sites in Iceland. Here, you can walk in the rift of the continental plates of Europe and North America!

Your next stop is the world-famous site of Geysir. This iconic location is where you will find Strokkur, which erupts every 5-8 minutes the most active geyser in Europe. From here, it is a mere 20 minutes or so to the next stop, which is the beautiful waterfall of Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Water rushes and cascades over two platforms and down into the canyon below. Especially in the wintertime, this is a sight to behold!

Day 3

Highlights:

Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss Waterfalls
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Vík Village

Summary:

Accommodation: Vatnajökull (e.g. Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon)

Optional Activities: Glacier Hiking

Your third day will be along the very famous and very popular South Coast of Iceland. Two of the most well-known sites here are some of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls: Venture into the cave behind Sejlalandsfoss waterfall, and stand before the stunning and dramatic Skógafoss, as powerful as it is beautiful. Looking to the left, it is possible to get a glimpse of a volcano that made headlines around the world. Eyjafjallajökull sent a shockwave throughout global air traffic, as its colossal ash plume grounded flights, causing untold chaos.

You will also see Iceland’s famous and iconic black sand beaches. These special volcanic sands stretch along the South Coast, and one of the most incredible places to visit is Reynisfjara. The drama and atmosphere of this place is undeniable, as the ocean currents smash the shore against a backdrop of imposing, basalt columns and craggy sea-stacks. You will then check in and chill out at your country hotel.

Day 4

Highlights:

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
Diamond Beach

Summary:

Accommodation: Vík (e.g. Hotel Katla)

Optional Activities: Ice Caving

After a buffet breakfast, you will head further along the South Coast towards the national park of Vatnajökull. The glacier itself is the largest glacier in Europe, and the entire area is protected and Iceland’s second UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is where you will find the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. It is where large icebergs break away from Vatnajökull glacier and gradually drift their way out to the ocean. No two icebergs are the same, and so you can gaze at these magnificent ice structures before they are eroded by the ocean.

The beach nearby this area is called Diamond Beach. The reason for this is because there are chunks of ice that lie scattered over the black sand. This is what is left when the ocean’s current breaks down larger icebergs and returns pieces to the beach as they glitter and sparkle in the sun. After this marvel, you will then head to your hotel.

Day 5

Highlights:

Capital Reykjavík

Summary:

Accommodation: Reykjavík (e.g. Skuggi Hotel)

Optional Activities: Glacier Hiking

After breakfast, you will be heading back to the city of Reykjavík. Here, you can enjoy one last evening of the special winter atmosphere. There is always something to do, whether that be a visit to one of the many museums, bars, restaurants, sightseeing, or even one last hunt for the Northern Lights!

Day 6

Highlights:

Capital Reykjavík

Summary:

Optional Activities: Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, FlyOver Iceland

It is time to be heading to the airport, but if you have some spare time, you can always hit the streets one last time, or buy any souvenirs. You might even be able to end your adventure in style and visit the world-famous Blue Lagoon (if you haven’t already) as it is just a short skip and a hop to the airport from there. No matter how you use your last day, you will have had an incredible winter adventure, and we cannot wait to see you again!
