Day 1

The first day of this trip is scheduled around your arrival at Keflavík International Airport. Regardless of when you land, a bus shuttle will be waiting for you outside the airport to take you to your accommodation in Reykjavík.

 

Depending on your arrival time, you can make a stop at the Blue Lagoon on your way into town to relax in the milky blue geothermal waters. If you head straight to Reykjavík, you can explore the city, go shopping or join a guided food tour. Look forward to the start of your circle tour on day 2!

Day 2

Highlights:

Þingvellir National Park

Summary:

The adventure begins! Your second day takes you to the Golden Circle. The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of great political and geographical importance. It was here that Alþingi, Iceland's first democratic parliament, was founded in 930. It is also one of the few places in the world where you can see the Mid-Atlantic Ridge above ground!

 

Afterwards, you will be taken to the geothermal area of Haukadalur, where the Geysir and its active brother Strokkur are located. Here you can witness boiling water being spewed dramatically from the depths to a height of 40 meters or more about every 5-10 minutes. You will then continue to Gullfoss, a spectacular two-tiered waterfall in the heart of the Hvítá river gorge. After exciting explorations, you make your way to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the evening with your fellow travelers, sharing stories about the day and relaxing.

Day 3

Today you will slowly but surely make your way to the South Coast of the country, a true gold mine for explorers. You'll make your way to two of Iceland's most popular waterfalls - Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, both as different as they are impressive. Then, if you're feeling adventurous, strap on your crampons and head out on a guided ice cave tour! Vík's natural ice cave is the only one that is accessible all year round. Here you can marvel at fascinating blue and black ice layers.

 

We also stop at the famous black sand beach Reynisfjara, from where you can admire the rock peaks Reynisdrangar and the offshore peninsula Dýrhólaey. You spend the evening in a cozy, hand-picked hotel nearby.

Day 4

Day 4 offers you a classic Icelandic experience: a glacier hike on the mighty Vatnajökull glacier! In the hands of experienced guides, you'll explore this wonderland of ice structures and enjoy breathtaking views of the South Coast! You will then continue your journey to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Its undeniable beauty has made this place a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. In the lagoon, you can see icebergs drifting lazily towards the Atlantic Ocean.

 

You can take an optional boat tour to see the glacier up close, or simply enjoy it from the shore. From the glacier lagoon, it's also just a few minutes walk to Diamond Beach - a black sand beach where you can admire stranded pieces of ice that have drifted off the lagoon. We then make our way back to our accommodation and spend the rest of the evening relaxing.

Day 5

It's hard to believe it's already day 5! You'll make your way to the enchanting Stokksnes Peninsula, where dramatic peaks mingle with desolate black coastlines. The journey continues through picturesque fjords and with breathtaking views of the coast. The lovely fishing village of Djúpivogur is located along the way, and you may even see a reindeer today!

 

If you can't get enough of animals, you can also join a horseback riding tour. Later, you will visit the largest forest in Iceland, Hallormsstaðaskógur, and drive along Lake Lagarfljót. A relative of Nessie is said to dwell in its depths... Your day ends in Egilsstaðir, where you will have a chance to relax and spend the night in a nearby hotel. For some extra relaxation, you can even add a visit to the Vök geothermal baths.

Day 6

Today you will continue your journey north and to Lake Mývatn. This area offers its visitors many sights and smells. Hike through the rugged lava field of Dimmuborgir and enjoy the lovely lake scenery, while just before, in Námaskarð, you can marvel at bubbling mud pots. On the way, visit the majestic Dettifoss waterfall, the second most powerful waterfall in Europe, and the smaller but beautiful Goðafoss waterfall.

 

A short drive further up the road will take you to Húsavík, Iceland's whale-watching capital. Húsavík has been in the spotlight recently, as it plays a major role in the Netflix movie “Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga”. In the evening, you'll arrive in Akureyri - Iceland's gateway to the north, with attractive wine and food options and a vibrant nightlife.

Day 7

Today it's time for one last adventure in the North! Not far from Akureyri is the village of Hauganes, where you will take part in a whale-watching tour to see humpback whales and other gentle giants of the sea. The Eyjafjord is said to be one of the prime locations for whale watching, and you will not be disappointed.

 

The small village of Hauganes is also a great place to take a walk: The pretty harbor and black sand-lined coastline make for great scenery, with high mountain peaks all around. Afterward, you will drive back to the capital Reykjavík, where you will spend the night.

Today you will be picked up in the morning to discover the wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Often referred to as “Iceland in miniature”, this region on the western coast offers you a variety of the landscapes for which Iceland is so well known.

 

Highlights include the arrowhead mountain of Kirkjufell, made famous by the popular fantasy series Game of Thrones, the black church of Búðir, and the picturesque black sand beach of Djúpalónssandur. At the yellow beach of Ytri-Tunga you may even see seals! At the end of an eventful day, you will return to Reykjavík and can enjoy the evening in one of the many restaurants downtown.

Day 9

Today you have a full day at leisure to explore Reykjavík. Take the opportunity to stroll through the Old Town, visit the boutiques on Laugavegur shopping street, or venture into one of the many exciting museums.

Today is unfortunately already the day of departure, but depending on the time of your flight, there is still the possibility of a relaxing visit to the Blue Lagoon!
